Why is this drug prescribed?
A long-term treatment for allergies, Nasonex does not provide immediate relief. To be effective, it must be used regularly once a day. It starts working within 2 days after the first dose, but takes 1
to 2 weeks to yield its maximum benefits. If you suffer from hay fever, you should begin taking it 2 to 4 weeks before the start of pollen season.

Cautions
Make sure you tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems, especially:
- Cataracts¡XLong-term use of nasal corticosteroids may cause cataracts
- Glaucoma¡XLong-term use of nasal
rticosteroids may worsen glaucoma by increasing the pressure within the eye
- Herpes simplex (virus) infection of the eye or
- Infections (virus, bacteria, or fungus)¡XNasal corticosteroids
ay cover up the signs of these infections or cause a serious course of infection
- Injury to the nose (recent) or
- Nose surgery (recent) or
- Sores in the nose¡XNasal corticosteroids
y prevent proper healing of these conditions
- Kidney problems or

Side Effects
Check with your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following side effects occur:
Bloody mucus or unexplained nosebleeds; cold or flu-like symptoms; increased abdominal pain and crampi
ng during menstrual periods; muscle or bone pain; stuffy or runny nose or headache; viral infections
Chest pain; cough; discharge or redness in the eye, eyelid, or inner lining of the
eyelid; earache; shortness of breath, troubled breathing, tightness in chest, or wheezing

Symptoms of overdose may include:
A single overdose of Nasonex is unlikely to cause any harm. However, habitual overuse of the product can cause symptoms of steroid overload, including menstrual irregularities, acne, obesity, and musc
le weakness. Check with your doctor immediately if you develop such symptoms.

How should this medicine be used?
This medicine usually comes with patient directions. Read them carefully before using the medicine.
Before using this medicine, clear the nasal passages by blowing your nose. Then, with the n
osepiece inserted into the nostril, aim the spray towards the inner corner of the eye.
In order for this medicine to help you, it must be used regularly as ordered by your doctor. This medici
ne usually begins to work in about 2 days, but up to 2 weeks may pass before you feel its full effects.
